Imre Bak
About the artist
Bak Imre (1939 – 2022) a Magyar Képzőművészeti Egyetem festő szakán végezte tanulmányait Budapesten, 1958 és 1964 között. A hatvanas évek végére már megfogalmazódott benne a gondolat, hogy ötvözze az amerikai művészet hard-edge és minimalista tendenciáit - amikről német közvetítéssel értesült - a magyar avantgárd művészet tradícióival és a magyar népművészetből inspirálódó motívumokkal. Ez a strukturalista, a jelek és a szimbólumok természetét vizsgáló program határozta meg az 1970-es években létrehozott festményeit. Az 1980-as években Bak képeinek geometrikus rendszere egyre összetettebbé vált, előkészítve festészetének posztmodern fordulatát, aminek következtében még a posztgeometrikus festészet trendjeihez is tudott kapcsolódni, eklektikus, idézeteket használó képeivel. Bak művészetében az 1990-es években a motívumai ismét „egyszerűsödnek”, immáron nagyobb egybefüggő színfelületek jellemzik festményeit. Ekkor készült művei elsősorban az építészeti inspiráció jegyében fogantak, fő motívumuk az építészeti tagozatokból épített „struktúra”. Bak Imre legújabb, a 2000-es éveket követően létrehozott műveivel pedig visszatért a geometrikus festészet alapkérdéseihez, egyebek mellett ahhoz, miként lehet térillúziót teremteni a festészet síkbeli eszközeivel.
