About the artist
Andrea Éva Győri (b. 1985-2022, Rotterdam) is a Hungarian artist living in the Netherlands. After studying fine art at the academies of Budapest and Stuttgart she was an artist in residence at the Van Eyck Multiform Institute for Fine Art and Reflection - Residency Program in Maastricht. Győri works in several media including painting, drawing, sculpture, performance and video. Her works are mainly inspired by deep personal experiences of hers and other women’s. She focuses on both the mental and physical conditions of womanhood in all ages. Her explorations embrace emotions, nerves, muscles and organs and their interrelations. A major aspect of her work is participation. She practices it in her live performances and video works executed with invited partners mainly from her close social environment, or during the projects in which the starting points of creating her artworks are collaborations with individuals or groups involved in mental processes such as meditation or psychotherapy. Győri has presented her work at international institutions including the Haus der Kunst in Munich, the Witte de With Center for Contemporary Art in Rotterdam, the Vleeshal Center for Contemporary Art in Middelburg, and Bonnefantenmuseum in Maastricht. She was an exhibitor at MANIFESTA 11 Zurich with her Vibration Highway project that was also published in form of a book in 2018.
