NETWORKING THE RESEARCH

acb ResearchLab was established in September 2015 within the framework of the acb Gallery. The activity of our ResearchLab focuses on research, filling a gap in the presentation and publication of Hungarian neo-avant-garde and post-avant-garde oeuvres, with regard to the context of current international discourses. The core activities of the ResearchLab include the serial publication of smaller monographic editions as well as the publication of scientific treatises summarising several years of research. Opening in March 2016, the new exhibition space acb NA gallery will sequentially present individual oeuvres and activities of artist groups, curated into a series of exhibitions.

The – network-based – research methodology is derived from the realization that the avant-garde artists connected and collaborating with each other in the sixties-seventies (Gábor Altorjay, Katalin Ladik, Tamás Szentjóby, Bálint Szombathy, Árpád Tóth Fenyvesi, Endre Tót, János Vető and members of the Pécs Workshop – most of them represented by acb Gallery today) should be examined in their synchronicity and coreferentiality. The advantage of a network-based research is thus considerable not only in terms of the avant-garde interrelations, but also regarding the mutual inspiration of artists active in experimental genres, which is underscored by documents found in individual artists’ archives. The aim of the ResearchLab is the discovery and presentation of new artworks and thus the representation of avant-garde art in the contemporary discourse, as well as the creation of a database of artists represented by the gallery, which – in the long run – would be made accessible for further research.
