A true 21st century sculptor, Szalay does not shy away from using new techniques, creating interactive kinetic sculptures, experimenting with DIY electronics, computer-aided design, 3D printing, and incorporating elements of parametric architecture.

But he also has a sure hand for traditional sculptural materials (stone, metal, wood, porcelain). In his work he attaches importance to the unbreakable link between materials and message. He is bold in his use of iconic figures from the history of art, but his attention and creativity are not lost on mass-produced commercial sculptures - painted porcelain slips or even the work of old masters.
