Gergő Szinyova
About the artist
Gergő Szinyova (b. 1986, Budapest) is a visual artist based in Budapest. He graduated from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts in 2010. Szinyova’s artistic practice combines a respect for classical painting traditions with an acute awareness of contemporary visual culture. His works draw on a vast archive of digital images collected from photography, architecture, music, and design sources, which he analyses from both internal (emic) and external (etic) perspectives inspired by cultural anthropology. By filtering, abstracting, and integrating these references – whether from art history, architectural plans, graffiti, or minimalist object photography – he transforms them into his own motifs while retaining traces of their origins. This creates a sense of recognition in viewers, evoking familiar elements within new visual contexts. Through this method, Szinyova reflects on the current condition of visual representation and the tensions within today’s image culture.
