Norbert Oláh

About the artist

Norbert Oláh (born 1990) is a painter from Héhalom, Nógrád County, Hungary. He graduated in 2016 from the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, in the class of Eszter Radák. His work is defined by questions of identity, the social role of the artist, the relationship between art and power structures, and institutional critique. His painting practice incorporates both figuration and abstraction, as well as conceptual approaches, and he often works with a wide range of media and genres. A key aspect of his artistic practice is social engagement: he participates in civil initiatives, works with disadvantaged youth, and actively strives to make contemporary art accessible to broader segments of society. He has exhibited at the 2021 OFF-Biennale, the Ludwig Museum, and the acb Gallery, among others. In the 2025 OFF-Biennale, he is participating as both an artist and a curator. In 2023, he was a finalist for the Esterházy Art Award. He is the artistic director of Bura Gallery, a progressive Roma art space, and a co-founder of the artist collective Cigánybűnözők (“Gypsy Criminals”).
